We expect that your child will have a fantastic learning experience at Elstow-Waihou School.
Your contribution in making the school a productive learning environment is valued. We want to work together with you to give your child a quality learning experience, achieve their very best, have fun and make good friends.
Children are New Zealand’s future and while we want children to enjoy their learning, we take our role as educators very seriously. We understand that your children will be entering a world that is globalised and requires skills and knowledge to navigate their way through the world today. Children now need to be equipped with the skills beyond the ‘basics’. Therefore at Elstow-Waihou we have a strong focus on; thinking, self-management, values, creativity and relationships.
Relentless attention to your child and their needs
Teachers take care to really know your child and their needs. We do this by getting to know them as a person, closely monitoring their progress, understanding their learning and help them set a clear learning path. We communicate to parents regularly about their child’s learning, behaviour and social development. Open communication with parents and close monitoring of student development means that we adapt our teaching approaches to be a best fit for the children in our school.
Building partnerships with families/whanau
We believe the best way to cater for the needs of your child is to build effective relationships with those that care most about your child – you. We want children to have a ‘can do approach’ to life and to build resilience. We want them to be challenged and to learn how to deal with disappointments and celebrate success. It is our job as teachers and parents to work together to support their learning –walking alongside them and guiding them as partners in their learning.
Programmes to cater for special needs
If your child needs special support with their learning we advocate strongly for your child with outside educational networks to get the best resources for them in a timely manner. We have strong supportive learning networks and teams on hand to support your child’s learning. If you do have a concern please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or me (see Principal contact details).
If you have any questions regarding your child or enquiries about our school please do not hesitate to contact me.
